Nkawkaw, the capital of the Kwahu West Municipal Assembly, in the Eastern region had recorded its first three cases of corona virus pandemic after samples of the index cases which were among 14 suspected cases sent for testing, at the Holy Family Hospital, proved positive.


In this regard, the municipal assembly has directed all residents to wear face masks to help prevent the spread of the corona virus in the area and beyond.


A statement issued by the assembly after a municipal security council meeting with the health directorate, stated that from next week, each and every one in the Kwahu West Municipality is required to wear a face mask to contain the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.Statistically, the Eastern region has a national data count of 108 confirmed cases of corona virus, with 3 cases been confirmed at Nkwakaw, out of the national tally of 7117, with 2317 recoveries.


For this reason over 200 contacts are being traced as more samples have been taken for holy family hospital for confirmation.


In view of this, the Kwahu West Municipal assembly in conjunction with the health directorate to the contain the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, have intensified education at hospitals, and public institutions, targeting government workers, commercial drivers, passengers, tricycles operators, market women and men, general merchants, restaurants operators and food vendors, hairdressers and barbers, among other target groups.


The assembly have supplied various communities in the municipality with over 6,000 face masks, 50 boxes of alcoholic hand sanitizers, 80 veronica bucket, and gallons of detergents, among other PPE’s to the target groups front liners for distribution to their members to prevent the spread of COVID–19 fight.

The assembly have also positioned security personnel at vantage points in the municipality especially at the market centres, lorry terminals and alongside the principal streets of Nkwakaw to ensure and enforce the wearing of nose masks and the practice of social distancing among other protocols.


Speaking to NET2 TV, the Municipal Chief Executive, Yaw Owusu Addo, expressed worry that Nkawkaw has recorded 3 cases of corona virus despite measures put in place to fight the pandemic

He assured that the assembly in collaboration with the health directorate has fully prepared for isolation centers within the municipality in the event of quarantining COVID-19 positive persons.


He said the assembly will do more to intensify the COVID-19 fight, and entreated the general public to strictly adhere to all precautionary measures by the president and the assembly to stay safe.

NET2 TV news team visited some of the market squares and lorry stations, to observe the implementation of measures to curb the viral spread.


Some of the drivers and market women expressed gratitude to the assembly for their assistance and the enforcement of laid down protocols which will help them against the fight.
