The Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research College of Health Sciences, University of Ghana has celebrated its 40th anniversary in November this year and in view the celebration, the institute launched a year- long celebration of this anniversary in November 2018. As a climax of activities marking the 40th anniversary, NMIMR organized a scientific research conference which was scheduled from 28th – 29th November 2019 under the theme” Noguchi at 40: sustaining global health gains through partnerships in biomedical research”.
The Director of the institute, Prof. Abraham Kwabena Anang in his speech mentioned that since the establishment of the institute, it has been pursuing a threefold mandate. He added that all the achievements have been possible because of the support o various stakeholders, with clear contributions from various individual, groups and organizations.
The Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng on his part mentioned that Ghana may be endowed with natural resources, such as gold, diamond, manganese, timber, cocoa and bauxite, citing categorically that these natural resources have no natural owners.
He added that a well designed research management systems with corresponding STI performance indicators are needed.
