The Oti Regional Minister, Joshua Makubu has disclosed that the Oti Region can become the hub of tourism in Ghana in the next few years if the tourist potential in the region is harnessed effectively.
Mr Joshua Makubu said the creation of the region came at the right time and has brought governance to the doorstep of the region and its inhabitants.
Mr Joshua Makubu made these disclosures when he granted an interview with NET2 TV NEWS on the economic potential and emergence of the region.
He said the creation of the region has brought in its wake, reduced travel time and reduced significantly the cost of travel for goods and services, as well as accelerated the development of infrastructure for the burgeoning region.
The regional minister noted that the new region, which is cosmopolitan in nature, is the amalgamation of tribes and cultures living in harmony, with excellent hospitality and the welcoming nature of the indigenes, who live in the region.
He said due to these facts and the tourist endowment of the region, Oti can become the hub of tourism in Ghana.
The Oti Regional Minister said the discovery of minerals including iron ore is a very good omen for the region. This is because mining iron ore and other minerals will have a wide effect and consequence on economic activities in the area.
On the performance of the New Patriotic Party in the region in the last elections and expectations ahead, Joshua Makubu, said despite the loss of its singular parliamentary seat, he was optimistic that come to the 2024 elections, the NPP will perform better than it had, and annex more seats for parliament.
He said in absolute terms the NPP increased its votes in the region in 2020, and will be more tactical the next time around.
