President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has today commissioned the second phase of the Accra Compost and Recycling Plant (ACaRP) at Adjen Kotoku in the Ga West Municipal of the Greater Accra Region.
In line with President Akufo-Addo’s vision of making Accra the cleanest city, the second phase of ACaRP started in 2017 with the aim of increasing the plant capacity to bridge the existing gap of untreated solid waste within the Greater Accra Metropolitan Area (GAMA).
Speaking at the ceremony, President Akufo-Addo stated that, the second phase of the three-phased ACaRP is a testimony of his fight against poor sanitation and to help achieve his agenda of making Accra the cleanest city in Ghana.
On his part, the Executive Chairman of the Jospong Group of Companies (JGC), Dr Joseph Siaw Agyepong, disclosed that the project was made possible with the support of their partners, Lubo Recycling Systems of the Netherlands.
According to him, the expanded ultra-modern facility will add 1400 more tonnes to its existing capacity of 600 tonnes of solid waste treatment adding that this will further bring the total plant capacity to 2000 tonnes.
He said, the newly expanded plant will have other new features including sorting, composting and plastic recycling to the existing ones.
The plant which started with a workforce of 150 will be adding an additional 200 more.
