Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong, a presidential contender of the New Patriotic Party, has justified govt’s decision to support the proposed Economic Community Of West African States (ECOWAS) military intervention in Niger.
Niger has attracted global attention lately due to the overthrow of its President, Mohammed Bazoum by a military junta headed by Abdarahamane Tchiane.
Hon Ken Agyapong, who is also the Chairperson of the Committee of Defence and Interior in parliament, affirmed that if as a nation, we make a mistake in encouraging coup d’etats, its negative effect on society will be enormous.
He said the security of this country was paramount and vital and no matter the wealth of citizens, prevention of destabilization acts is better than curing the ravages of military rule.
The Assin Central MP said the proposed ECOWAS military intervention would not be the first time the sub-regional bloc has intervened, naming instances in Liberia, Sierra Leone and The Gambia.
Hon Ken Agyapong made these comments when he appeared on an Accra-based TV station on Wednesday.
On his presidential ambitions, Hon Ken Agyapong used the occasion to assure the Ghanaian electorate that, he is a man of action and results.
Even though some claim he talks a lot, he posited that he backs his words with actions, stressing that such comments motivate him to do more.
Hon Ken Agyapong said his vision remains patriotism, honesty and discipline, which are 3 key areas that can transform the fortunes of the country.
He said Ghanaians need to instill a sense of patriotism and local businesses need honesty and discipline to thrive.
He said with his experience as a businessman and a politician, he is best qualified to lead the country.
