The Executive Director of Child Rights International, Bright Appiah has advocated for reforms in the educational system to integrate child protection measures.

His call emphasizes the importance of creating a safe and supportive environment for children within schools, ensuring their well-being and safeguarding their rights.

In an interview with Kencity Media at a press conference in Accra, he said incorporating child protection into the educational framework, schools can better address issues such as abuse, neglect, and exploitation, fostering a secure atmosphere conducive to learning and development.

According to him, Schools should establish clear policies and procedures for reporting and handling child protection concerns. This includes creating a safe and confidential process for students to report issues and provide medical facilities, social service officers and clinical physiologists for students.

He said between February 2024 and July 2024, a disturbing trend of four reported cases of child fatalities in schools has come to light a common thread among these tragic incidents is the role of untreated illnesses that originated in the school environment, exacerbated by alleged negligence ,denial of medical attention or refusal of exeat by school authorities.
