Residents of Pillar 2 in the Dome-Kwabenya constituency will have no cause to complain this time around about the deplorable nature of their roads.
This follows the official sod-cutting for the commencement of a 7.5km road network which covers the entire area by the Member of Parliament for the constituency, Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo.
The project, which is being undertaken by M/S ADT Construction Company Limited, at a cost of GH₵16.2million is being financed by the Government of Ghana and is expected to be completed in July 2020.
Sleepless night
Addressing the residents at a short ceremony held in the area (Ante Mary) on Tuesday, July 23, 2019, Hon. Adwoa Safo said the commencement of the road project has brought so much relief on her since she has had sleepless nights thinking about how should could address the plight of her people.
She was grateful to the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and the Chief of Staff, Hon. Frema Opare-Osei for listening to the concerns of the people and directing the Finance Minister to release money to rehabilitate the deplorable road networks in the area.
“Despite the numerous calls on the previous government to as a matter of urgency, rehabilitate these roads, it all fell on deaf ears. Today, we are fortunate we have a listening and supportive President, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who has the ears to listen to the cries of his people. As a matter of fact, I am very elated that we are going to begin works on this major road today”, a joyous looking Hon. Adwoa Safo, who is the first female Deputy Majority Leader of the Parliament of Ghana, told the crowd.
The Dome-Pillar 2 roads joins other road projects in the constituency which have been completed such as the asphalting of Taifa Township roads and the Supermarket-Agbogba Link road.
Other road projects that are at various stages of completion in the constituency include the Taifa-Burkina road, Atomic-Roundabout-Kwabenya-Abuom road, asphalting of Kwabenya-Abuom-Ashongman Estate road, and Musuku-Roundabout road among others.
Speaking further on the road networks in the area, Hon. Adwoa Safo, who is also the first female Minister of State In-Charge of Public Procurement, said about 23 kilometers of roads would also be constructed under the Sinohydro Chinese facility as captured by the 2019 Budget Statement and Economic Policy of the Government.
“As I speak, contractors have started working on some of these roads and it is my hope and belief that many more will also begin in the coming months”, she noted.
She further told the residents that she remains conscious of other roads within the constituency which also need immediate works such as the Agbogba-Old Ashongman, Abokobi road, Pure Water roads and the Bohye (Narhman) roads among others.
The Ga East Municipal Chief Executive, Mrs. Janet Tulasi-Mensah, on her part thanked Hon. Adwoa Safo for continuously lobbying for developmental projects for the municipality.
She said she always feels bad whenever she plies the deplorable road networks in the municipality but is very proud today that the President has come to their aid.
