Special voting in Ghana begins today, Monday, December 2, 2024, across 14 regions, ahead of the general elections on December 7. This special voting allows security personnel, media practitioners, and other essential workers who will be on duty during the elections to cast their votes early.

However, personnel in the Eastern and Western Regions will have to wait until Thursday, December 5, 2024, to participate in the special voting exercise due to logistical reasons.

The Electoral Commission, in collaboration with the National Election Security Taskforce, has encouraged all security personnel to cast their ballots today to ensure they can vote before their duties during the general elections begin. The Commission has worked closely with political parties to facilitate a smooth and transparent process.

The special voting is crucial as it enables those who play key roles in maintaining law and order, as well as ensuring media coverage of the elections, to exercise their right to vote without disruption.

As the December 7 general elections draw closer, Ghana’s political landscape is dominated by a fierce contest between the New Patriotic Party (NPP), represented by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), led by John Dramani Mahama. The special voting marks an important step in ensuring that essential workers are able to fulfill their roles and still participate in the democratic process.
