The Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has stated that illegal activities in the petroleum downstream sector cause the nation over 200 million USD per annum in the form of lost direct petroleum tax revenue,subsidies that do not get to the targeted people and the abuse in transport claims for the transportation of petroleum products.

He said the network of illegal activities in the petroleum downstream sector include bunkering, smuggling of products and the dumping of products meant for export on the local market among others.

The Vice President today launched the Electronic Cargo Tracking System and the National Command Centre at the NPA head office.

This system and the centre will improve standards and control in the distribution of petroleum products in the right quality and quantity in order to raise maximum revenue for the government in the petroleum downstream sector.

He said government is leveraging on technology to tackle some of the problems that continue to undermine the ability to build the Ghana we all want.
