In addition to the 112 emergency number designated for reporting suspected cases of Coronavirus, the government of Ghana has launched an Information Centre with 311 as the call number to provide real-time information to the public on matters related to COVID-19.
The helpline will also serve as a platform for receiving feedback from health workers on the distribution and availability of Personal Protective Equipment’s (PPEs).
Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah announcing the helpline at a press briefing on Wednesday April,1 2020, said persons seeking real-time information about the virus and any clarification on government’s measures such as the restriction on movements can call the information centre for help.
He, however, stressed that people seeking testing or those who would like to report a suspected case should make use of the already existing 112 helplines for support.
He also announced 0555311311 as the WhatsApp number which can also be used to reach the centre.
He cautioned the public against making prank calls to the help centre, indicating that numbers used to make such calls will merit a block and possible prosecution.
Prior to the press briefing, Ghana’s case count of COVID-19 stood at 161, but the Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyemang Manu speaking at the Press Briefing revealed that the number had risen to 195 with death figure still at 5 and full recoveries at 3. He also indicated that a good number of the cases are coming up to full recovery.
