A series of strikes hit a residential neighborhood of the Ukrainian capital in the early hours of this morning, igniting a huge fire at a 15-story apartment building.

At least one person was killed and others are still trapped inside as firefighters rush to rescue people from ladders.

Ukraine’s military has said the incident was the result of artillery strikes on the Svyatoshynskyi district.

Russian forces also stepped up airstrikes overnight on the northwest suburbs of Irpin, Hostomel and Bucha, the head of the Kyiv region has said.
