Muhammad Awinuduaffau T. Alhassan won the first edition of the Ghana Bodybuilding and Fitness Association (GBFA) fitness challenge competition held in the Hathiramani Hall at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday.

In the male gold category, Alhassan earned 220 points for the first position, followed by Ephram Dzamposu with 213 points while third position went to Asare Eric with 208 points and Jeremiah Edem Mawusi came fourth with 204 points respectively.

In the male silver category, Mathew Dewornu came first with 294 points, followed by Papi Dodos with 293 points where Kuuku Zion earned third with 284 points and Moses Kwabena Adade came fourth with 273 points.

In the female silver category, Portia Tekpor won first with 295 points followed by Doris Nartey with 245 points where Ramatu Mbame got 199 points for the third position and Rashida Abubakar earned 188 points for the fourth place respectively.

In an interview with the media, Mr. Abdul Hayye Yartey, the President of the Ghana Bodybuilding and Fitness Association (GBFA) said being physically active improves health and also helps to strengthen bones and weight.

He said, “Ghanaians need to know that their health is very important because recently a lot of people are dying because of health-related issues as compared to those days.” Mr. Alhassan Gold winner thanked the organizers for organizing the competition for the first time.

He said, “I’m very happy because most of us have been training but there is no competition like this for us to do, we only train to entertain and encourage ourselves.”

He said as a winner he has a lot of tasks ahead of him, “as a winner, there is a lot of pressure on me because I have to train extra hard in order to maintain my title for now I’m not happy because I have a lot of work to do.”

Tekpor said she was surprised by the win, “I didn’t actually expect it but I first of all want to thank God for giving me the strength. .”
