The boyfriend of the Cape Coast Technical University (CCTU) student who was allegedly killed for ritual purposes has been remanded into police custody.
The suspect, Nicholas Ato Bronk Taylor, was arrested at his residence and later arraigned at the Cape Coast Circuit Court on Monday, 16 May 2022.
He is expected to reappear on 31 May 2022.
The lifeless body of 24-year-old Nana Ama Clark, a level 300 Marketing student at CCTU, was found in a pool of blood with her private part cut off by the assailant(s).
She was found dead near the Ola College of Education, Cape Coast, at about 9 pm last Friday, 13 May 2022.
The body of Nana Ama Clark was subsequently deposited at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital mortuary pending further investigation.
Residents who were left in a state of shock called on the police to ensure the perpetrators were apprehended and ensure justice is served.
Nana Ama is believed to have stayed in a hostel outside the campus. The manager of the hostel, John Boakye, said the deceased had left her room with her fan, laptop, and other gadgets on, indicating she knew she would not be long.
Mr Boakye said he did not know her very well, but she came across as a reserved person.
Some tenants in the hostel corroborated Mr Boakye’s assertion, describing her as a quiet and reserved person.
Management of the university, in a statement, also called on the police to expedite its investigation into the death “and bring the perpetrators of this gruesome murder to face the full rigours of the law.”
“In the meantime, management wishes to assure students, parents, guardians, and the public that security at the University remains strong,” the school added.
A vigil was held on Sunday night in honour of the murdered student.
