Fox News confirmed in a statement that the British father-of-three had been injured but did not comment on how seriously he was wounded.

Ukraine’s prosecutor general, Irina Venediktova, has now said on Facebook that a British journalist is in “intensive care under the supervision of doctors”.

She wrote: “This man was not at a military facility, where according to Russian officials, they are constantly targeting.

“Not being at a military facility, he suffered serious injuries.”

At the weekend, American journalist Brent Renaud died after reportedly being shot by Russian forces.
