Health Ministers within the ECOWAS Region have met in Accra for an extraordinary meeting on a Strategic Plan for the West African Health Organization (WAHO) dubbed “VISION 2030”.

Director-General of WAHO, Prof. Stanley Okolo speaking at the meeting said, this meeting should have taken place last year but due to the COVID-19 pandemic they are a year late.

However, he said the Strategic Plan would focus on three areas, to accelerate access to and availability of inclusive and affordable quality health services.

Also to ensure effective public health emergency preparedness and response across the ECOWAS Region.

And finally, to Strengthen WAHO’s institutional processes and promote organizational excellence.

Hon. Kwaku Agyemang Manu, Minister for Health Ghana who doubles as Chairperson of the ECOWAS Assembly of Health Ministers welcomed the gathering and also gave details of the meeting.
