The Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Hon Mrs. Mavis Hawa Koomson has said Aquaculture is considered the best alternative to help reduce the overdependence of countries on their marine fishery resources, Aquaculture production has not been sufficient enough to make up for the gap between fish production demand for fish, especially in the developing countries

Speaking at the 7th meeting of about 76 Fisheries Ministers from some parts of Africa and Europe held in Accra she said, the Theme for the meeting OACPS Blue Economy Agenda 2030 _Catalysing the Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture Development for the future will enable participants to share their experiences and knowledge during the two days to inform the decisions of the Minister’s meeting.

Hon Mrs. Mavis Hawa Koomson said Ghana as part of measures to address the challenge confronting the Fisheries and Aquaculture sector has been implementing Fishing Closed Season for all fleets, including artisanal canoes as a marine stock recovery strategy to help rebuild depleting marine fish stock.
