The Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Hon Ken Ohene Agyapong has presented an amount of $424,000 to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shirley Botchwey to facilitate the safe return of some stranded Ghanaians in Lebanon.


The amount includes a personal cheque of $200,000 in addition to a separate donation of $144,650 and GHC501,000 which is equivalent to $84000, contributed through an appeal made the the Assin Central MP.


The donations of the amounts is as a result of an appeal made to the Hon MP and the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to intervene in the crisis especially during this covid19 pandemic and the harsh economic conditions pertaining in the middle eastern country.


The appeal was made through a video by a concerned Ghanaian citizen in Lebanon, which went viral, detailing the inhumane conditions some Ghanaians were going through in Lebanon.


Subsequently, Ken Agyapong, who is also the group chairman of Kencity Media Ltd, rallied some well meaning Ghanaians both home and abroad, who contributed to facilitate the return of the stranded Ghanaians, most of whom are young ladies.


Channeling his appeal via NET2 TV and OMAN FM, both subsidiaries of Kencity Media, the effort managed to raise over $400,000 in total for the cause.


Speaking to the media at the Foreign Ministry in Accra, where he made the presentation to officials of the Ministry to facilitate the return of the stranded Ghanaians, Hon Ken at Foreign Ministry revealed that he was moved to action by the appeal which prompted him to act, and prove to world that the African is capable of handling their own business.

Disclosing the breakdown of the presentation, Kennedy Agyapong also gave credit to some Ghanaians for supporting his call.

For her part, the Foreign Minister gave a brief background to the plight of the stranded Ghanaians and said the Ministry has already evacuated some 560 Ghanaians so far from Lebanon.

She used the opportunity to express her sincere gratitude to well meaning Ghanaians and the patriotic effort of Ken Agyapong to mitigate the plight of the Ghanaians in Lebanon.

Later in a media interaction with the media Hon Kennedy Agyapong expressed his concerns on the plight of the stranded Ghanaians.
