Residents in and around the La Nkwantanang Madina Municipalities in the Greater Accra Region, from now onwards would have no excuse to litter publicly as Municipal authorities of both assemblies have commenced the street litter bins distribution project. The street litter bin project, which will see the distribution of over100 litter bins across the municipality.

The Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources is currently coordinating the roll-out of the Sanitation Guards Programme with the various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies, who would monitor the use and maintenance of the bins.

This will help augment the current low staff numbers of the Environmental Health Officers who many believe when empowered can drastically improve the current sanitation and environmental menace threatening the various regional and district capital in the country.

Speaking to Net2tv, the Municipal Health Officer of the Assembly, Joseph Quaicoe outlined the action behind its placement and gave details on how the assembly would ensure the bins are put to good use in order to enforce sanitation laws.

It maybe recalled that, sometime in May this year, the Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei Opare launched the street litter bin project which is being facilitated by the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources.
