The Minister for Transport, Hon. Kwaku Ofori Asiamah speaking on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday 1st March 2022 disclosed that a total of 100 new intercity buses have so far been supplied to the Metro Mass Transport Limited (MMTL) at a total cost of US$17.5million financed by the Government.
He said, the company has also signed a contract with VDL Bus Roeselare for the supply of 100 intercity buses, spare parts, and training services of which under the same contract, a total of 50 broken down VDL buses at Metro Mass Transport Limited (MMTL) would be repaired to augment the fleet.
The Transport Minister said this project is also being financed with a total of €25.49 million mixed credit facility from the Government of Belgium and Belfius Bank SA/NV.
Mr. Ofori Asiamah concluded that a money assessment is being undertaken for the supply of 300 Hyundai Buses from Korea and additional 200 buses from China and it’s being expected to add a total of 600 new buses within the short-medium term period.
The response from the Transport Minister, came up when the MP for Adaklu who doubles as ranking member on roads and transport Committee of Parliament, Kwame Agbodza Governs filed a question to know how many buses have been procured for Metro Mass Transit since 2017 and the cost involves and also how it was funded.
