The Minerals Commission of Ghana has cut sod for the construction of a GHC10 million ultra-modern sports complex at Kenyasi, capital of Asutifi North District of the Ahafo Region.

The ultra-modern sports complex with other sporting facilities like titan tracks among others is expected to be completed in the next six (6) months to be commissioned for use.

The Board Chairman of Minerals Commission, Sampson Kwaku Boafo in his address commended the chiefs for securing land for the project and explained that the commission went through several consultations before arriving at the said decision which is of great benefit to residents of the district, region, and Ghana as a whole.

He stated that as the Board Chairman of the commission he is mandated to make sure that all communities where mining firms are located in the country benefit which leads to improving the living standards of the people.

The Board Chairman popularly called S. K. Boafo urged chiefs and other opinion leaders to have the best of rapport with the gold mining company in order to have legacy projects to uplift the development status of the district.

He said the commission has made the funds (Gh.10million) available for the work so the contractor has no excuse to detail the construction.

” You’ll be forever remembered for having this legacy project in your tenure ” S.K.Boafo told chiefs, Member of Parliament and District Chief Executive.

The President of Kenyasi No.1 Traditional Council, Nana Osei Kofi Abiri II on behalf of other chiefs expressed gratitude to the President of the Republic and Minerals Commission for putting up such a landmark project for the people of Asutifi North District and Ahafo in general which will certainly boost the local economy for development to thrive.

He further said with the presence of the ultra-modern sports complex, talents will be identified and nurtured well for the country’s benefit so the decision taken by authorities is a welcoming one.

Nana Osei Kofi Abiri II appealed to the contractor to avoid engaging in shoddy to ensure that there is value for money. He again urged all to come together to support the contractor to execute the project in the stipulated time.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Asutifi North, Anthony Mensah, also thanked chiefs for assisting the district with land for the construction of the project under the auspices of the Minerals Commission of Ghana.

He disclosed that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo – Addo has decided to ensure that all mining companies erect legacy projects in communities where they operate to enhance development for the people. According to him, the President has noticed that residents of most mining communities in the country lack the needed development from the mining companies which is unacceptable.

“The NPP government has put up measures to have legacy projects for communities where mining firms operate just like what you’re seeing today,” the DCE told the people present.

He assured the Mineral Commission of monitoring the construction exercise by the contractor for good work to be executed for the people of the district.
