Govt has through the National Disaster Management Organisation provided emergency relief assistance to victims of the recent fire outbreak at Shiasie, in the Ayawaso West Constituency in the Greater Accra Region.

Over 500 squatters were displaced by the ravaging fire, destroying property and belongings worth thousands of Ghana cedis. Following the fire outbreak, the Member of Parliament for the area, Lydia Alhassan provided mattresses and secured the Shiashie Presbyterian Church as a place of shelter for the squatters.

Hon Lydia Alhassan who donated over 500 bags of rice, buckets and an undisclosed amount of money to the squatters also appealed to the residents of the area to support the victims.

She also revealed that a relief fund has been set up to assist the squatters, stating that she has been able to raise some support for the victims but is woefully inadequate and appealed to well meaning Ghanaians within and outside the area to come and help.

The Greater Accra regional NADMO Director, Archibald Cobbinah for his part, enumerated the interventions his outfit has done to assist the fire victims.
