The Parliamentary Select Committee on Works and Housing believes the threat of tidal waves must be treated as a national emergency.
According to the Committee, a solution to the problem must be arrived at and implemented immediately.
The 18 members parliamentary select committee of work and housing paid a working visit to the Ketu South Municipal Assembly in the Volta region to visit victims affected by the recent tidal waves.
Communities such as Abutiakope, Kedzikope and Dzelukope were recently affected as homeless residents were left with nothing to salvage while residents of Anloga, Dzita, Agbledomi, Atiteti, Agokedzi, and Fuveme were also displaced by the fierce tidal waves that swept through the communities.
The team later went to the two communities that have been washed away as a result of the tidal waves; Kporkporgbor and Fuveme.
Speaking to journalists after visiting communities affected by the tidal waves, Chairman for the Committee, Hon Isaac Kwame Asiamah- Chairman Parliament Select Committee on Works and Housing who led a team after the tour met community leaders and some displaced persons to empathize with their concerns and plights. He assured them that the government will take it as a matter of urgency and will come to their aid.
Isaac Asiamah, said a report will be presented to Parliament on the situation in a bid to find a lasting remedy.
The Deputy ranking member Hon Andrew Chiwitey for his part, appealed to the government to see the issue as a National emergency and the need to act accordingly.
