Members of the workers unions of GRIDCo, are on a down strike from Wednesday, December 11,2019,until further notice.

According to a press release issued and signed in Accra on Tuesday, “as part of the strike, members of tge staff unions will picket at the Gridco Headoffice in Accra at a later date”.

The Unionists laid down their tools after exhausting all possible means to get Gridco management and other institutions petitioned to address their concerns.

The statement noted that following a press conference held by its leadership on November 21,2019, it was agreed for hoisting of red flags and wearing of red hand bands at all Gridco locations nationwide.

We also agreed for withdrawal of emergency services particularly outside working hours and on weekends, in our quest to get management attend to us.

The statement continued that submission of a petition to the Finance Minister, Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta and the Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana was another measure taken by the Unionists which also proved futile.

It was made clear at the November 21,press conference that failure by management and other petitioned institutions to resolve our concerns by December 10,2019 will result in a declaration of a sit down strike starting from Wednesday December 12,2019 until further notice.
