The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration in collaboration with ECOWAS and the International Organization for Migration is organizing a 2day sensitization and support program on the importance of the ECOWAS National Biometric Card and Free movement of persons within the ECOWAS region.

Speaking on behalf of the Foreign Affairs Minister at the Ministry today, the Deputy Minister, Hon Charles Owiredu indicated that, despite the ECOWAS protocol of free movement, citizens within the sub region still suffer from abuse, extortion along borders with some mostly women being molested by some member states citizens.

He hinted that Ghana has worked hard to ensure the implementation of the protocol agreement since 2016.

He said the NIA has issued 560,000 Ghana Cards which will be operationalized for all Ghanaians by March 2020 and believes it can help in identifying who a real Ghanaian is in the other ECOWAS member states countries and borders to minimize abuses on Ghanaians.
