The Second Vice Chairman for Suame Constituency of New Patriotic Party (NPP),Mr Richard Akwasi Asante, has called on Former President John Dramani Mahama to retract his statement which described the Asantehene Otumfuor Osei Tutu ll, as a liar.

Mr Asante also called Former Minister for Communications, Dr Omane Boamah to respect the Asantehene for his comment that ‘big people can lie’ pointing at the Asantehene.

The Former President and Dr Omane Boamah, were reacting to a statement by the Asantehene, in which he said Mr John Mahama was persuaded before conceding defeat after the 2016 presidential electioneering result was declared by the Electoral Commission (EC).

Speaking to the media, Mr Asante, described such statements as unfortunate since they have no authority to describe the Asantehene as a liar.

“Who dare you to describe our King, the Asantehene Otumfour Osei Tutu ll, as a liar”?

According to him, under customs and traditions, it amounts to disrespectfulness for persons irrespective of their ages or positions to insult a King adding the people of Ashanti will never sit down for the Former President and Dr Omane Boamah to insult him.

“We the Asantes respect our Kings and we won’t sit down unconcerned for other persons like Mr Mahama and Omane Boamah to insult the Asantehene” He said.

Mr Asante therefore called on the Former President and Dr Omane Boamah to retract such provocative comments as immediate as possible to avoid the wrath of the Asante Kingdom.
