The Deputy Medical Director of Yaaba Medical Services, Dr. Gwendolyn Hoedoafia, has called on Ghanaians to go back to their former ways of eating local foods and vegetables and exercise regularly.

This she said would reduce the increasing number of people under 60 years who are dying at an alarming rate due to non-communicable diseases.

Dr Hoedoafia who expressed the belief of eating with the eyes and tasting with the nose, raised concern about the rate at which recent lifestyle and eating habits are leading to the premature deaths of a lot of the Ghanaian working class.

Dr. Gwendolyn Hoedoafia, was speaking during the launch of Yaaba Medical Services 10 year Anniversary at Okponglo in Accra. As we embark on this journey down memory lane, I am reminded of the profound words of Maya Angelou, “I sustain myself with the love of family.” Indeed, the story of Yaaba Medical Services is deeply rooted in love – the love for humanity, the love for homeland, and the love for healing hearts. Our theme, “Celebrating a Decade of Cardiovascular Care, Mending Hearts, and Touching Lives,” encapsulates the essence of our mission.

It all began with a dream nurtured by Prof. and Mrs. Akamah during their years in the USA.

After countless nights of contemplation and fervent prayers, they made the bold decision to return to Ghana and give back to their community.

In 2014, armed with determination and a relentless drive, they planted the seeds of Yaaba Medical Services. Picture this: a humble rented facility, with Prof. Akamah donning multiple hats as the sole medical practitioner, and the indomitable Madam Clara, who was not only a nurse but also a pharmacist and everything in between.

Let us not forget the army of volunteer relatives and friends who rallied behind them, providing support in every way imaginable. From those modest beginnings to what we stand as today, one of Ghana’s premier heart care facilities, the journey has been nothing short of extraordinary.

Through sheer dedication and unwavering commitment, Yaaba Medical Services has grown exponentially. We have transcended boundaries, from serving just 10 patients to now tending to the needs of over 5000 individuals from across Ghana. Our clinic stands as a testament to the power of perseverance and the triumph of the human spirit.

We have weathered storms, embraced challenges, and emerged stronger, guided by our unwavering vision of providing unparalleled healthcare services to our beloved community and country by extension.OD But amidst our triumphs and achievements, let us not forget the heartbeat of our success, our incredible team of doctors, nurses, and staff, whose tireless efforts and unwavering dedication have propelled us to where we are today.

Each one of them embodies the spirit of compassion and excellence that defines Yaaba Medical Services. We are proud to offer a comprehensive range of services, including ECGs, Echocardiograms, Exercise stress tests, 24 – 48hrs Holter ECG monitoring, Ambulatory BP monitoring, Pacemaker insertion, and Coronary angiograms with stent insertion.

These services have been instrumental in diagnosing and treating cardiovascular conditions, ensuring the well-being of our patients. As we look to the future, our goals remain steadfast.

We are committed to providing excellent services to our clients, expanding our reach through periodic health screenings at different locations, and rebranding our clinic to make it more comfortable for our patients. Additionally, we aim to establish ECG schools to empower healthcare workers and enhance their skills in cardiac care.

For the next decade and beyond, let us remember that our journey is far from over. With a renewed sense of purpose and an unyielding commitment to our mission, we march forward, confident in our ability to continue mending hearts and touching lives. So, this is Yaaba Medical Services, a beacon of hope, a symbol of compassion, and a testament to the power of love. To Prof. and Mrs. Akamah, wherever you are presently, your legacy lives on, and your hearts beat within each one of us.

Thank you, and may our hearts continue to beat as one.
